Indie Music to Subconscious Mind.
Today I met an indie friend who is in the process of recording a video for one of his songs and I got the pleasure of listening to it before it is even released. It is called “Like I do”. The beauty of the song compelled me to think about one of the facts about the operation of human mind that is not known to everyone- everything that you hear or see programs your mind. For example, a child who is constantly called names like dumb or fool grows up thinking that he really is dumb. A person who always watches comedy movies tends to be more optimistic. A person who is constantly told by people (or himself) that he cannot succeed, will eventually become a failure.
So, you see, each type of input we receive is stored in our minds and is turned into a belief if repeated often. So, while I was listening to this beautiful, romantic song “Like I Do”, I was suddenly reminded of the “nothing’s gonna change” era of my life. The good old days! Now, because I have always associated my childhood romance, first love, crazy celebrity crush kind of feelings with that song, today, when I heard this indie song, I inadvertently started feeling young (not that I think I am old yet!), energetic and romantic in a certain way! The voice (Ekami Oualid’s) singing “Like I Do” was so deep, it immediately struck a cord in me, to say the least, and it had that “Richard Marx” touch to it that I have seldom found in the later generation.
I have been thinking back on my afternoon’s meeting and about the impact that this indie song “Like I Do” had on me and it leads me to think- at times I might be leading myself on to feeling a certain way, by listening to a specific type of song. Peppy number, I want to dance. Richard Marx, I want to be with a lover, and so on! You know!
Conscious Programming
By selecting the good/bad songs and listening to them, we are subconsciously programming our minds to think the good/bad way. Have you ever noticed the words of your favourite song? Have you ever analysed them and tried to find how many messages they contain? The songs we listen to are no more than suggestions accompanied by music. The only difference is, these suggestions are more influential than normal ones because we usually listen to music while we’re busy doing something else. This allows the suggestions in the song to go directly into our subconscious mind without first being filtered by the conscious mind!
And what am I trying to say? I am trying to say that if you listened to a song containing 5 good messages 10 times a day, you will be exposing yourself to 50 positive messages every day! Music can play a big role in figuring out what is by all accounts right or wrong, great or terrible and alright or not alright. In light of this, Indie artists need to be attentive about the messages that they are putting out with our tunes, however to make it better, imagine a scenario in which the tunes we composed deliberately conveyed positive messages. As I have discussed in my blog Impact of Indie Music, consider the possibility that they got to be songs of praise that pronounced trust and happiness, triumphs over shortcomings, strength and affection. We would have the ability to positively affect the hearts and thoughts of generations to come, and that is something to really look forward to.
Conclusively, music has the ability to impact the lives of people culturally, emotionally and morally. Considering this, the more indie artists get better with the messages and emotions they convey through their music, the more successful they will be in leaving an everlasting impact on the audience or listener. Indie artists have the order and power as specialists and musicians to change their society with the kind of music they make, and that really makes music something worth committing a lifetime to.
Success and Music
You will be amazed to know that successful people tend to prefer special types of music. I tried to do some research on this and found that you will almost never find successful and motivated people not listen to motivating songs like “breaking the habit tonight”.
Select your songs wisely because whatever you hear or see programs your mind and so affects your life directly. And don’t forget to watch this new song “Like I Do”. It’s AWESOME!
